Practical info for the Forty Foot
The Forty Foot
A historic swimming spot at Sandycove Point, open to the Irish Sea. Popular year-round with swimmers of all kinds. Named after the 40th Regiment of the British Army, who once stationed here.
Sandycove Beach
A sheltered spot around the corner from the Forty Foot. Lifeguarded June to September. Better for swimming when the tide is in. A gentler option if the Forty Foot is rough.
Getting there
10 minute walk from Sandycove & Glasthule DART station. The 59 and 111 bus stops nearby. Fitzgerald's is on Sandycove Road, 5 minutes from the Forty Foot and Joyce's Tower.
